Wish I Had An Angel

Wish I Had An Angel

Summary
WISH I HAD AN ANGEL is the second extract from Once, which was a great success for the band (it reached number one in many countries as well as in the European charts). This track really was an innovative song in Nightwish’s career and was the perfect single: a surprising potential, a catchy chorus, an ideal length for radio (even if a radio edit was made out of the 4 minute track), and a huge popularity among the fans: it was played as a closure for their concerts in the 2004-2005 tour.

Details...

CDWISH I HAD AN ANGEL is the second single that was both released by Spinefarm Records (in Finland) and by Nuclear Blast Records (in the rest of Europe). In the end, this single did not differ from the previous ones and cost the collectors a lot of money! Fortunately, the content of the single was worth it: several versions of the main song (among which a demo version), the previously unreleased cover of Anki Bagger’s song “Where Were You Last Night?” (which is rather surprising), and the instrumental and orchestral version of Ghost Love Score! Lastly, the video, photos, a making-of and even a screensaver were added to the various versions !

More infos !

Wish I Had An Angel history:
When Nemo, the first extract from Once, the band’s fifth album, came out in may 2004, Nightwish and Nuclear Blast had already been planning to release a second single to promote Once and it was 90% sure that it would be Wish I Had an Angel.  And as soon as the end of May, Nightwish announced that they were going to Germany to shoot the video for the song! However, we eventually learnt that Wish I Had an Angel was definitely chosen to be released as a single (in September 2004) in July, when the piece of information was to be found on the Nuclear Blast Shop (Nightwish’s record company in Europe) and on Spinefarm Records (Nightwish’s record company in Finland)’s release list. Wish I Had An Angel was also heard in the movie "Alone In The Dark", featuring Christian Slater and Tara Reid, among others. The film eventually hit the screens in fall 2004 in a total indifference! Yet, it did not prevent Wish I Had an Angel from enjoying a strong promotion thanks to the band’s success, with, for instance, 3 different versions by Nuclear Blast (a regular CD-single, a DVD-single and a vinyl), a video that was heavily broadcast, and a gigantic tour (Nightwish ended every concert from this tour with this song, by the way!). Nuclear Blast even called Wish I Had An Angel:  "Die Single Zur Tour!" (Translation: "the tour’s single »)
