Sleeping Sun

Sleeping Sun

Summary
In order to celebrate the 1999 eclipse, Tuomas wrote a song (asked by Drakkar Records actually), or more specifically a ballad, called Sleeping Sun. This ballad had a great success and became one of the band’s biggest hits. A video was shot for the song: once more, Tarja appears alone (with a bath tub though….) !

Release date: 1999
Written and composed by Tuomas Holopainen

01. Sleeping Sun 4'01
02. Walking In The Air 5'28
03. Swanheart 4'44
04. Angels Fall First 5'34

Details...

Sleeping SunThis single is available in one single version: in a regular maxi-CD box. The four tracks on this single are ballads. There is Sleeping Sun, of course, but also Walking in the Air (which was a single from Oceanborn), Swanheart (taken from Oceanborn too) and Angels Fall First, a song from the band’s first album. One can only lament the fact that the video for Sleeping Sun is not available as a bonus on the album.

This CD is still available in Germany, on the EMP website for instance.

Sleeping Sun history:
Oceanborn, Nightwish’s second album after Angels Fall First, was a big hit and the two singles Sacrament Of Wilderness and Walking In The Air had been doing good too when a new single, Sleeping Sun, came out on Finnish and German radios. Written by Tuomas on the occasion of the eclipse that took place in August 1999, this ballad quickly became a classic, maybe their most beautiful ballad to date! It has also been added as a bonus on many versions of the album Oceanborn, in order increase the sales.
